WHAT IS THE LATEST CLAT SYLLABUS?

Since the CLAT exam is just a few months away, the candidates must get started with the CLAT 2023 preparations without much delay. The early you start, you will have more time for preparations and revision.

However, the Consortium of NLUs has not released any official notification; we can consider the last year’s CLAT Syllabus and Exam Pattern. The syllabus and exam pattern do not change that often. This article will provide you with the latest syllabus for CLAT preparations. 

CLAT 2023: Section-wise Marks and Question distribution

The CLAT 2023 exam will comprise 5 sections. The previous years’ question papers have helped lay out the section-wise distribution of marks and questions for the aspirant’s reference.

Important things about the CLAT syllabus.

1. The most important sections of the CLAT exam are Legal Reasoning and Current Affairs. Both carry the maximum weightage of 23.33-26%.
2. English and Logical Reasoning are next in line with 18.66-21.33%.
3. The section carrying the least weightage is Quantitative Techniques.

Knowing the weightage will help you identify the section that must be focused upon more. However, that does not mean sections with the least weightage must be ignored. Rather they are the scoring zones. So, the candidate must balance the focus given to each section.

CLAT Latest Syllabus

To perform well in the exam, the candidates must know the topics that must be covered while preparing for the CLAT exam. Therefore, we will look at some important aspects in each section.

Section I- English Language

This section intends to check the comprehension abilities and the candidate’s command of the English language. So the candidates must focus on the following aspects:

2. Making inferences and conclusions.
3. Summarisation
4. Identification of varied arguments and perspectives.
5. Meaning-making.

Section II- General Knowledge and Current Affairs

This section intends to check candidates’ general knowledge of the following themes:

4. Historical happenings, which, are still relevant and significant.

Section III- Legal Reasoning

The candidates will be checked for their legal aptitude through this section. The focus areas of the legal reasoning section are:

1. General knowledge about current legal and moral issues.
2. Identification and inferring of rules and principles given in the passages.
3. Understanding the impact of changing rules and principles on various fact situations.
4. Application of rules and principles to real-life situations.

• Indian Constitution – Fundamental Rights, Duties, Judiciary, Parliament, Directive Principles of State Policy, Local governments
• Important amendments and provisions
• Important judgments
• Current legal affairs

Section IV- Logical Reasoning

Under the logical reasoning section, the following abilities are assessed:

1. Identification of arguments and their premises.
2. Drawing conclusions.
3. Draw similarities and differences
4. Critical analysis of patterns of reasoning.
5. Assessing situation-specific conclusions.
6. Determine the validity of arguments through the identification of similar grounds and differences amongst arguments.

• Series
• Seating arrangement
• Syllogisms
• Blood relations
• Logical sequences and matching
• Calendars and clocks

Section V- Quantitative Techniques

This section requires the candidate to:

1. Work with numerical information provided or stated in the given passages. It includes deriving, making inferences and manipulating numbers.
2. Application of elementary mathematical concepts and operations.

Some of the important topics of this section include:

• Ratios and proportions,
• Basic algebra,
• Mensuration
• Statistical estimation
• Algebra
