HOW DO INVISIBLE BRACES COMPARE WITH TRADITIONAL TEETH ALIGNMENT SOLUTIONS?
If you’re one of the thousands of people every year who consider the idea of teeth alignment then you may be interested in finding out a little more about what a company called Invisalign can offer. Whether you’re looking into teeth alignment solutions for yourself or someone else, perhaps one of your children, then you’ll probably have been surprised to learn just how many different solutions there are.
Popular Method
However, almost every popular method offered by dentists involves applying one of two types of brace. Until fairly recently there was only really one type of brace – metal or wire fixed braces. But today there’s a new choice available, and although Invisible Aligner it isn’t suitable for everyone, it is certainly offering an appealing alternative.
What Invisalign
This is what Invisalign is able to offer – a solution commonly being referred to as invisible braces. One of the biggest drawbacks with traditional braces used for teeth alignment is the fact that they are so very visible. Even a slight smile is enough to reveal fairly obvious braces, and it’s impossible to hide. For children this can be awkward, and for teenagers going through a tough period of growing up it can be a real problem, damaging confidence terribly.
Of course, not everyone who opts for teeth alignment is a child, and many adult professionals look into the idea every year. But for a working professional having very visible, somewhat distracting metal wire braces isn’t really an option many people would consider. So for all these different categories of people, the idea of invisible braces from Invisalign certainly sounds appealing. But what really are invisible braces, and how do they compare to normal braces?
Whereas Normal Braces
Whereas normal braces are fixed more or less permanently into the mouth, applying pressure on the teeth to move them into new positions, invisible braces are resin based moulds which slide over the teeth, applying pressure in a much less obvious way. Invisible braces are a little like wearing gum shields, but as they don’t need to offer protection from rough sports, they’re much thinner, and made from a material which is almost entirely transparent. This means that the net result is a brace which is virtually invisible.
Not only that but for those really important times such as a professional photograph, an intimate moment, a date with a peanut butter sandwich or even just when you want to clean your teeth properly, the invisible braces from Invisalign can easily be slipped off. But it isn’t just in physical appearance or oral hygiene which the advantages lie.
Because Invisible Braces
Because invisible braces can also apply the teeth alignment changes in a much shorter periods of time – months instead of years. How is this possible? The answer is that unlike with traditional metal braces which are fitted and then left in for 2-4 years, invisible braces from Invisalign are fitted and then left in for just two weeks. After two weeks the braces are removed and replaced with a new set of invisible braces, very slightly different from the first set. This process is repeated every two weeks, Invisalign with each subsequent set of braces applying pressure slightly differently, nudging the teeth steadily towards the final position in carefully planned incremental steps.
Technology Invisalign
This sounds like a complex process, but thanks to technology Invisalign are able to predict almost exactly how your teeth will eventually look – and even how they’ll look at each two week stage. This is because a computer is used to model and maneuver your teeth in 3D virtual reality, and it is the computer which generates the models for each brace mould. This combines a dentist’s experience and expertise in nudging and maneuvering teeth with computer technology to create a solution which is reliable, accurate, comfortable, convenient, discrete, healthier and more effective than traditional teeth alignment solutions.
