Are We Doing Enough For Women’s Rights?
Women’s rights have taken the world by storm since the outbreak of WWII. In the olden times, women were the demographic that was to be seen and not heard. Many women around the world have suffered gross human rights violations throughout the centuries be they economically or physically. This was apparent during a war where they were subject to rape, assault, and violence. Many of the women who suffered from domestic violence were not provided the proper care for their protections
Sex trafficking has been the number one problem for women who continue to be forced into slavery and kidnapped and transported across the world. Even today women are subject to different kinds of violations that impact their lives negatively.
The world human rights organizations have done their best to expand and focus on bettering the human rights conditions of women worldwide. Highlighting sexual violence in war-torn regions such as Bosnia and Rwanda has given women better alternatives to seek justice for their causes.
Domestic violence remains a problematic issue for women. The society of human rights has created new mechanisms to help women access support groups where they can be safe and away from abusive spouses. That said, millions of women across the world do not have the facilities in place to help them escape these abusive households which require human rights organizations to invest more in their safety.
Access to education is another issue that still needs to be tackled for women. In the era of the Taliban taking control, many girls are being restricted from gaining an education at all. Many lose their lives in trying to defy the religious authorities.
Human rights groups have yet to resolve the problem of lack of education for young girls particularly when their problems are continuing to grow.
Women’s Rights
The murder of Mahsa Amini in Iran has caused the eruption of protests among Iranian people opposing the mandated dress code and demand for more freedoms. One of them is the morality police that actively harasses women with respect to their dress and functioning. The protests have resulted in many casualties with more young girls becoming victims of the regime.
The lack of response from the NGOs and the international community has made it clear that there is no general agreement on the issues that pertain to women’s rights. Feminists have been criticized for not being as vocal on these pertinent issues as they are with Western societies, particularly with respect to the MeToo movement.
Being vocal and outspoken in the West has benefitted women greatly but this has not been the case for women residing in the Eastern world which is why it is incumbent for the same human rights and women’s rights outfits to invest their attention to bettering the lives and rights of women across the world.
This has been the case for the past century when the horrors of slavery were outlawed internationally and decolonization began to accelerate as an evil. The countless manifestation of world human rights organizations has made it clear that the protection of all human beings is possible through the unity, cooperation, and support they provide each other.
